I don't know if it's the best game ever, but it might be a perfect game. The level design, the music, the way in which NG+ is more difficult AND changes the location of the treasures. I spent probably sixty or seventy dollars of my own cash renting this from Blockbuster repeatedly when it first came out (and then, six months later, got one on clearance from Wal-Mart for 19.99, plus about eight games for three bucks apiece - if only I could see into the future).īut I was there! It came out, and I played Mario's Tennis and Red Alarm and loved them - and then I played Wario Land, and Wario Land may be the perfect game. I mean, this was a revelation for me in 1995.

I'd have it above the Wii for sure, and really not that far behind the 360 (which had its own share of problems, namely the RROD). The two libraries are so close that there's really not a right or wrong answer.ĮDIT: Though even with all of the PS3's faults early on, I'm surprised that it didn't even make the list. Whereas when you look back on it today, the PS3 has nearly all of the same multiplatform games as the 360, plus you have something like The Last of Us that came out towards the end of the PS3's life, and is one of the best 2 or 3 games of that generation. Until that point, the 360 was generally getting better multiplatform ports and early on, games like Bioshock and Mass Effect first. I owned a 360 and Wii for most of that generation, and it really wasn't until around 2011 that the PS3's exclusive library was attractive enough for me to get one. That may be how they are ranking it, and I tend to agree. But the 360 was a way better console over the first half of that generation, while the PS3 I feel surpassed it towards the end of the generation. I think if you look at it today, with the full picture being completed, I think the PS3's exclusives put it over the top. Do you assess them based on what their libraries look like today, or which offered the better selection over the course of the generation? 360 library is a really interesting case.
